1. Lottery for draft (discussion) * Recently real life MLB implemented a draft lottery involving the non-playoff teams. The top 6 picks would be determined via lottery instead of record. This would help us curtail some tanking issues potentially.
* I am not sure if we should go this direction or not but I think it's something that we should discuss and if enough people think it's worth voting on then we should do so after we discuss it. I do believe tanking has been a bit of an issue here and this might be the easiest way to address that situation without making rule changes.
2. Potential Penalty for teams who leave guys on IL longer than 2 days beyond the stats ding as this has been a repeat issue that should not be an issue considering you are sent an email and it shows up on your fantrax roster page.
* This has continued to be a reoccurring issue for teams and honestly I am not sure why. You get a 2 day buffer period as it is to make a move to get a guy off IL yet some teams leaving guys on their beyond affecting not only them but their opponent and potentially the rest of the league via standings. One idea would be you get 1 warning then next time it happens you drop a draft spot each time it happens. Open to other potential penalties as well so if you have any suggest them as part of the discussion phase.
3. Minors - this continues to be an issue and if I have to come up with some kind of draft penalty for teams to have better minors it will be considered. Everyone at bare minimum should have some kind of draft history as well as players gained/lost.
* See #2 about 1 warning then some kind of penalty for it not being done.
4. Expanded Playoffs (discussion) - this is much more complex than yes or no.
* If we were to expand playoffs adding another round that would mean we would likely have to add some type of double matchup week in order to maintain our current balanced schedules. Currently we have 4 schedules that were created for our league that we rotate each year.
5. All-Star Week: Short Vs Long * We have always done short all-star week but if we wanted to make it a long all-star week it would be similar to expanded playoffs which would likely require a double week somewhere (likely at start of year or in middle of year but not final week of season). We generally do a long first week then the World Series can also go longer than 7 days depending on when the season ends.
6. Opening Day Roster - What you have listed on OPENING DAY on fantrax is what will be marked on spreadsheet as your opening day roster this includes players on IL so if you do not want those guys listed as being on IL on roster page PUT THEM IN MINORS otherwise once they come off IL you will have to make a roster move to create a roster spot for them or demote them via normal channels (waivers, waiver pass or rookie rule). This also goes for guys who you want in paid minors not on roster page they need to be put in minors (if they qualify) BEFORE opening day they are not allowed to be freely moved after opening day NO EXCEPTION.
* This will be a straight acknowledgement once we move to that phrase.
7. World Series End Date should we discuss this? Options would be 7 days only or until end of season.
8. Anything others would like to bring up to be added
These are all discussion topics. If there is enough interest in them we would move to a vote or acknowledging changes moving forward whichever was decided.
Deadline to discuss will be Nov 30th. After that we will either do nothing, vote on changes or acknowledge changes (or some combo of these).

Question #1. Most teams in this 1 -6 draft pick range have hefty cap space. Other than a draft lottery, I would suggest, adding a “cap” or “Re-Sign” type designation on a team’s ability to overbid on players in Free Agency and then have the ability to trade them in their first season with the winning bidder’s team. Most contending teams can’t compete in Free Agency because the prices become too inflated due to the fact that 1- 6 teams overbid with the idea of trading that player later in the year. Tanking is probably far less an issue than overbidding. I guess the best "cap" would be if, the player exceeds "re-sign" rules by 10 - 20% than that player has to remain with the signing team for at least one full year.

I don't see us restricting what teams can sign who or how. To me that is a totally different discussion and not one that is part of any lottery discussion. Plus this seems like something that would add to what TAB already has to monitor in free agency as it is.

1. I would like to see a lottery system for the pick. I do think it will help some with teams that might think about tanking. I also like how it will add value to the lottery picks in trades.
2. I would like to see a penalty. Maybe if you have multiple offenses in same year, you lose a waiver pass or the player is put on waivers? I know harsh but should get someones attention.
3. We need to let everyone know what all has to be included in minors and if it isn’t then move their 1st pick to end the of the round.
4. Yes
5. Short but either is ok with me.

I don’t find the IR issue overly troubling, at least not after 2 days. I’d expect someone to check in at least once a week during the season. Many do check in more frequently, I usually do, but you can keep a team moving forward by updating things once a week. Acknowledging the challenge of keeping a full league of active owners each year, I’d hate for the penalties to pile up and discourage an owner who’s updating their team “regularly” once a week or so. If we do anything here, I’d prefer the limit being no less than 7 days.

#3 I have mentioned in the past, but a potential penalty that would solve the problem in a timely manner is a team can't resign a player unless the draft history and minors are up to snuff. In theory, everyone, (who resigns someone) would have updated minors 'n draft history going in to Free Agency season.

1) I think using the lottery for picks 1-6 is great.
2) I feel like 2 days is too little. I would prefer 3-5 days. Losing position in the draft seems too not match the infraction. It's very easy to overlook a guy or go a couple days w/out checking Fantrax.
With that said, I would like to know more about the issues you listed. I would have thought simply the GM with the guy on IL would be impacted, not their opponent or the league. There's no guarantee the player coming off the IL is a reserve or starter.
3) Are we talking about a Minors/Prospects/Transactions/Past Draft forum threads? If so, I support the idea, but again, not sure what the penalty would be.
4) No opinion. Less work for the mods is better.
5) Leave it as short.
6) No opinion. Was there even a question or just looking to start a dialog?
7) I like the idea of having the WS before the actual MLB season ends. Maybe not 7 days but 3-4 games should work. That last series (real life) would be the biggest impact if teams are resting SPs for the playoffs. Just my $0.02.

I get an email when my roster is about to be illegal plus the note on fantrax itself. I check my fantrax daily because of injuries and guys getting days off its really hard to set a lineup weekly in MLB. It effects standings because teams with illegal roster get a 0 get day until issue is fixed so it not only can affect that matchup but potential standings as well. Doesnt matter what the guy coming off IL is you not allowed to stash a guy on IL and thus have more than 26 healthy players whether you can use him or not you still have more than 26 "healthy" players on your ML roster. 3. Talking about some teams have NOTHING in minors and others have some that have not been updated in years. I am not even asking for a lot but at least FYPD History is helpful. 4. Not really much extra work other than some double matchup weeks. 6. Yes some teams were an issue which was noticed when comparing spreadsheet to fantrax roster AFTER season had started with teams moving guys who were listed on ML Roster moved to minors with no corresponding move then trying to tell me they were suppose to be in minors but were not listed as such on FT on opening day (when I check rosters and mark them on spreadsheet). 7. World Series will never be shorter then 7 days.

On #2 while 2 days has been what we used I am opening to discussing that # but I don't think I would be in favor of anything more than 3 days.
In terms of penalty I am very open to ideas. Could be something as simple as if teams leave a guy on IL longer than allowed team must burn a waiver pass and if they are out of waiver passes that player must go to waivers (this could be done by TAB Member to get roster legal). But again I am open to ideas on what others would think where we could vote on potential changes like days and penalty.

1. Lottery for draft: - All that would happen is teams 7-11 would then tank in hopes of getting into the lottery, and have the opportunity to win the first pick in the draft. - This would also be disheartening to a new team owner with a defunct mess to rebuild (could make it more difficult to find new owners).
2. Potential Penalty for teams who leave guys on IL longer than 2 days: - See if Fantrax can police this issue, even if we need to pay more.
3. Minors: - Spot check by Tab. If more than 2 errors are found, the team drops 1 spot in each round of the draft.
4. Expanded Playoffs (discussion) - this is much more complex than yes or no. - Majority vote wins issue. If “yes” – do whatever must be done to make it work (no complaining)
5. All-Star Week: Short Vs Long: - see answer #4
6. Opening Day Roster : - Post rules and have each team acknowledge. Then no one can complain later. If they do, just post their acknowledgement of the rules.
7. World Series End Date should we discuss this? Options would be 7 days only or until end of season. - Tough one. That last week can be a killer when many teams are resting veterans. No opinion on this one.
8. Anything others would like to bring up to be added: - No

1. Lottery for draft -- YES
2. Potential Penalty for teams who leave guys on IL longer than 2 days beyond the stats ding as this has been a repeat issue that should not be an issue considering you are sent an email and it shows up on your fantrax roster page. NO. 2 days is too short - i almost got caught with this a few times - i check regularly but sometimes there is a small lag with noticing when a player is on IR or when they have to be activated off IR. I would be ok with a penalty but needs more grace period than 2 days.
3. Minors - YES - require that people have an update to date thread that lists their draft picks each year or whatever you as mod/TAB want. Penalty could be non approval for trading (I have that in another league) or harsher penalties such as non ability to draft or moving down in the draft)
4. Expanded Playoffs (discussion) - I am good as is but would be fine if expanded.
5. All-Star Week: Short Vs Long - SHORT
6. Opening Day Roster - acknowledged
7. World Series End Date should we discuss this? Options would be 7 days only or until end of season.
8. Anything others would like to bring up to be added. YES Anti Tanking/Encourage Winning - we should think about a way that incentivizes winning. Again, I have that in another league. This complicates for MOD a bit but...
(1) We could increase the salary cap for successful seasons as a way to encourage winning/penalize tanking. I.E. Winning your division earns you another X dollars in permanent cap, making playoffs, earns you X$ in cap. .500 season gets you X in cap
(2) Add a 4th round to the Draft- this could be for everyone OR you could structure it that you earn a supplemental pick if your threads are up to date, have no IR penalties, finish .500 -
(3) International draft - one round. I have brought this up before but this is one of the area of the league that the manager has no control over. Certain teams are better at intl signings than others and the BIGS owner benefits without any skill or application of effort. It's inherently inconsistent with being in control of your own team and building your own success. A one round draft would at least be a start without creating more need for extensive preparation by owners. Would build off the FYPD draft concept also -
Thank you for asking opinions here

Would build off the FYPD draft concept also - 1) I don't see us doing something that would alter the salary cap. 2) Its an interesting idea I dont think it should be for everyone to me that is just saying you want a 4th Rd. Some think 3 is too much as it is. So there would need to be some kind of incentive tied into it. 3) Not really a fan of this personally and Marlins havent been exactly great at either FYPD or International signings. I know some will be in favor and some will be against. This is something that has been brought up in several of my leagues over years. I think adding another draft here complicates things a little too we already have 2 drafts as it is. But I appreciate the ideas and input. Its some interesting ideas even if we don't use but they are all something to think on 100%.

Personally I like the league the way it is. I have a gterrible team, but that has been my fault. I think it is one of the better run leagues. 1. I do not see a reason for this. Tanking is not the same as not caring for your team. 2. This is a problem. but most penalties are a little harsh. This is not a weekly league and needs daily attention. 3. Is this draft history supposed to be posted somewhere? 4. Why chamge? 5. Leave as is. 6. OK 7. As is.
