Angels trade RP Darren O'Day $300,000 (2014) 2B Aaron Hill $2,590,000 (2014)
Rays trade LHP Blake Snell (prospect) Tampa Bay 2014 dispersal draft pick
Angels accept.
I trade two expiring contracts which I had no plans to resign and get a high ceiling lefty pitching prospect and a dispersal pick. I could have shopped around a bit more but we're closing in on the deadline and I like the guy I got.

Snell looks promising, but I think trading him and a dispersal pick is worth the potential payout this year. Gotta go for it when you have a chance is my motto!

Rays do have the roster space for the 2 players and also the cap space for the 2 incoming contracts.
I guess at first glance one might think Hill and O'Day could bring more back but this late in the season and pushing the trade deadline, we only have 1.5 weeks left in the regular season. Even a playoff team as the Rays are likely to be, only have 2.5 weeks guaranteed playing time left. Also I would think its doubtful that a team would want to tie up a re-sign on Hill. Taking the potential short-term use of the players into consideration sort of balances the fact that the dispersal draft pick is very likely to be pick #28 next year. Looks good to me!!
Player Histories: .. Darren O'Day: Was Angels property at freeze date: May 29, 2006: Signed by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim as an amateur free agent. Roster Freeze Date: November 15, 2008 December 11, 2008: Drafted by the New York Mets from the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in the 2008 rule 5 draft.
Aaron Hill: Was acquired by Angels in a trade with the Mets here on 12/31/2013.
Blake Snell: Drafted by the Tampa Bay Rays in the 1st round (52nd) of the 2011 MLB June Amateur Draft from Shorewood HS (Shoreline, WA). Wasn't selected by any other team here in the 2011 FYPD.
Search also showed the Rays still own the 2014 dispersal draft pick.

I think this is a great trade for the Halo's considering he wasn't keeping either of those guys. Plus it's to solid players for the Rays stretch run.
