Chicago White Sox promote Nate Jones, RHP for the CWS. He crossed the 70 IP threshold in 2012, making him $300,000 (2017)

Chicago White Sox promote Nate Jones, RHP for the CWS. He crossed the 70 IP threshold in 2012, making him $300,000 (2017) All of the above is correct. A comment and a question first though. Read this about Jones: "Nate Jones (elbow) is currently long-tossing from 105 feet. Making his way back from Tommy John surgery, Jones isn't far off from throwing off a mound. The reliever will miss most, if not all, of the 2015 season while rehabbing. Feb 20 - 3:48 PM" If you want, you can just keep him listed as "unpaid" minors. Even though his contract is running (2017) we don't require that you promote and pay him. That was you could save the $300,000 until Jones is actually ready to pitch and promote him nearer that date. Your choice on all of that. Just post back and let me know before approval. Thanks

Hey I would definitely take advantage of that if that was the case. Consider this request cancelled if possible.
I was under the impression that if you rostered someone who had crossed the 70 IP threshold (major or minor leagues), he had to get paid. If that's not the case, great but then I'm curious, is there ever a point where you have to promote or recognize a salary on an individual in your system?

Actually a rookie's contract date starts as soon as they get either 130 at bats or 50 innings pitched.
Even though their contract year is running at that point, each team still gets to decide if they want to promote and use the player. If they never get promoted, you don't have to pay them. You just can't use them to get stats at our Fantrax site until you do though.
Canceling promotion.

Phils is right as always. There are quite a few teams (Marlins I'm looking at you) with major league guys that have yet to be called up. This is one of the subtleties in how you manage your 25 man roster that's up to you. Adds a bit of strategy.

Interesting. So essentially you can stockpile guys in the minors w/out paying them indefinitely, until the first time you call them up? Then, from the time you call them up until they graduate from their rookie deal they're owed $300k/year?

Then, from the time you call them up until they graduate from their rookie deal they're owed $300k/year? I own a 2B/OF named César Hernández, Has a 2019 contract year now. He had 121 at bats in 2013 and 114 ab's in 2014. The real-life Phillies though only seem to ever call him up is for use as an injury replacement. (Utley probably - lol). Then send him right back to the minors when the other player comes off the DL. Just no need really to ever promote and use a guy like that who plays so little, if at all. Either way though, contract or not, I'll lose this guy after the 2019 season since he went over the 130ab's already.

Ahhhhhh - so when I saw the "NEED TO CALL UP" list from the Mets original post of the CWS roster, that indicated that these players were past the IP/AB limit and if called up would need to be paid, not that they were required to be called up post-haste (which is definitely how i took it)!

I think the label "NEED TO CALL UP" was just used as a reminder that you do own them but they would need promoted here before using them. More of less like a note stuck to a refrigerator. lol.

Right my apologies for the confusion. More of a reminder than an imperative. I still think Nate Jones is going to kick ass someday.
