Mets trade:
2B Aaron Hill $2,590,000 (2014) RHP Joe Ross (SD-A) OF Kirk Nieuwenhuis - $300,000 (2017) C Tony Cruz $300,000 (2017)
Angels trade:
RHP Mike Morin - AA OF Natanael Delgado - Low RK SS Pedro Toribio - A
It's hard to admit, but the Mets aren't likely to win the East this year so I'm trying to stock up for the future. Hill is a fine 2B, but injuries and inconsistency makes me not want to re-sign him after this season. Losing Joe Ross is tough, but SP is a point of depth to trade from in the minors and I have a lot of Joe Ross-types. Cruz and Nieuwenhuis might come through but are probably just back up types. Mike Morin is a solid RP who (might) be an 8th inning guy in 2014. Delgado is Mr. Potential, drawing some lofty comparisons and the Angels threw 7 figures at him so I'm taking an upside bet here. Toribio is a solid MI in the Angels MI mold (Segura, Aybar, Kendrick) who gets overlooked for the other prospects (Lindsey, Rondon, Stamets) but I'm guessing he gets a shot someday.

Angels Accept:
The Angels need pieces and that is what this trade does. Hill is a solid 2B and at under 3 Million is a steal in my book. Ross offers great potential with a strong arm when healthy. As for Kirk and Cruz, they were just pieces added to fill out the roster. Being so cheap and under team control for years, I thought that maybe if one could become a steady player it would be worth it. It is hard giving up prospects like the ones I did with talent and youth, but the Angels thought that at this time the major league roster needed to get stronger and deeper.

Mets, you should be getting 4-5 prospects for only trading Hill and Ross alone and one for Nieuwenhuis.
I know Hill is in the last year of his contract but he should be definitely netting 2-3 prospects alone.
Veto 0-1

I really do not see anything spectacular here. Hill is a starting 2B, but not amazing! Nieuwenhuis has been a huge disappointment over the past three seasons. Ross, Cruz, ehh! Angels need players, maybe of the bunch, Hill works for a year. Mets want prospects, who is to say that these guys don't pan out in 2-3 years. He likes them and Angels needs players today! Works for me!
I approve ( 1 - 1)

Mets probably could have got more, but is obviously happy with what he's getting with the upside of Delgardo.
Happy to approve (2-1)

Approved 3-1
I agree this is very light return for Hill. I would have liked to have seen at least one established prospect in return for Hill. He would probably be at least a $10 million a year player if he was a FA this year, considering how few offensive two baggers there are. All the other players in this trade have very little upside.
With that said, I'm in the belief trades should only be vetoed unless it's collusion or it just so lopsided it can change the competitive balance of the league. It sounds like the Mets have a vision for their team and this trade helps fulfill that vision.
