Attempt #2
Current Contract: SP Stephen Strasburg ($300,000 - 2015)
New Contract: SP Stephen Strasburg ($10,000,000 - 2020)
Despite agreeing about his injuries, TAB disagreed on my first attempt. I believe this is a fair offer, as he is not the top tier of pitchers, but is next in line.

Approve 1, if Stephen Strasburg has few season without injuries he is a Top Tier pitcher even with injuries he is in the top 20.

Approval #2
Definitely could be worth more if he stays 100% healthy but you get a sense of dread owning him at times.

Deny 1
For me, Stras has be at least 11. Approximating value is based off of what has already been approved, aka the comparables. In this case, Jordan Zimmermann got a 4 year deal at 10.5. Strasburg is better than Zimmermann. Hamels got a 4 year deal at 12.5. Strasburg is very close to Hamels. If the Mariners resign Felix at 12.5, I can't see how Strasburg is any less than 11. Ultimately this may be approved, but I think we need to be consistent with our valuation. Injuries can factor into the value, but he has been consistently on the mound and that shouldn't affect his annual value.

Re-explaining my yes vote and a comparison with Zimmermann: Using our scoring categories for starting pitchers" W, K, ERA, WHIP. The last 4 years for each and career stats Also innings pitched totals each of the last 4 years to determine the injury concern: Out of these thing, I "highlighted" in red 12 wins for Strasburg and 12 for Zimmerman. 1 tie. Which lead to me valuing them more closely.
strasburg 27yo 115 games started (last 4 years) w k era whip 15 197 3.16 1.155 159.1 8 191 3.00 1.049 183.0 14 242 3.14 1.121 215.0 11 155 3.46 1.107 127.1
Career: 54 901 3.09 1.092
zimmermann 29yo - 10.5M - 129gs 12 153 2.94 1.170 195.2 19 161 3.25 1.088 213.1 14 182 2.66 1.072 199.2 13 164 3.66 1.205 201.2
Career: 70 903 3.32 1.205

Exactly! With 14 more games he has 2 more ks and worse peripherals and he's older. Why would Stras be paid less?

Lots of ways to look at it. lol. 14 more games does show the durability side. The lower inning lead to less wins. 58-48 for Zimmermann. Was really surprised that Strasburg hasn't had one of those great sub 3.00ERA seasons the last 4 years. Cool debate though.

Denied 2-3
If this was for three years I would have said yes, but locking him into a $10 million a year contract for 5 years is almost no risk for the O's. I would understand 3 years because the guy has only pitched 200 innings once, but locking a player up for that long going into his prime is just not enough of a commitment.
I would need at least $12 million a year considering he's a top 5 pitcher in the game when he's healthy. If he pitched 200 innings each year we would have probably been calling for $15 million a year.
