White Sox wish to resign Starlin Castro 2B/NYY with a contract of $5,500,000 (2019)
I hope Starlin revitalizes his carrier with the Yankees, but based on his trending play with the CUBs I am ranking him just a little bit below average. Setting the median with the SS salaries below I think he has a value almost as good as their values are. I wanted to offer a salary of 4.5M but he is an established player and I want to be fair to the league and other contracts.
I had to use SS's for my comparisons.
Alcides Escobar - $6,000,000
J.J. Hardy - $6,500,000
Elvis Andrus $6,300,000
Martin Prado $6,500,000 (2014 NTC) (2017)

Deny 1
Castro has been a top 20 shortstop (occasionaly top 10) for the last 4 seasons. Now he heads to hitter heaven Yankee Stadium where he is slots in daily at either second or shortstop.
Alcides Escobar just got 6/year. Our league does not count defensive stats. Castro is better than Escobar, therefore Castro should get more than 6/year. Offensively he is closer to Prado. Approving 5.5 would be objectionable if I were the Baltimore GM. To me Castro is no less than 6.5. He is 25, was signed to a 7 year deal, and he almost has 1,000 hits!

Approval 2
Castro is a middle of the road guy for me. He's a short slump away from being a utl in my opinion. I'm fine with this contract because he doesn't do any one thing all that well.

I think he should be paid a million more so I am going to agree with Mets here.
