Wei-Yin Chen, (2015) $2,500,000
New Contract
Wei-Yin Chen, (2018) $5,000,000
When determining a value for Chen I considered that one of the more similar pitchers for him in terms of performance is Brett Anderson (non-resign with a contract of $4.25 mil through 2018). In the relevant categories for the league for an SP - W,WHIP, ERA and Ks, they have fairly similar numbers. Looking at their average season stats for Chen you have an average of 13 Ws, 7 K's per 9, a WHIP of 1.252, and an ERA of 3.72. For Anderson you have the same ERA 3.72, an average of 11 W per season, 6.7 K's per 9, and a WHIP of 1.298. Interestingly, while we do not use FIP, Chen's FIP is nearly half a run higher than Anderson's - 4.14 vs. 3.63, respectively.

This is a hard one for me, because $5 million seems like a steal but then when I look at his number it's literally mirror over the last two years, which are around 200 innings, 3.54 ERA, 154 k's, but a slightly higher WHIP at 1.2 than I thought. So he's probably slightly better than league average.
He's a tick below a guy like Doug Fister who I resigned for $9 million in my mind. So with that I'm going to say deny because on the open market Chen would probably a 10 million player. I'm thinking I need at least 7 million.

Veto #2
I would be looking for a similar contract like of $8,000,000 like Mike Leake recently received. Stats the last 2 year:
leake 28yo w k era whip 11 164 3.70 1.246 11 119 3.70 1.161
chen 30yo 16 136 3.54 1.228 11 153 3.34 1.218

Veto #3, Actually on our Fantrax website Mike Leake is listed under Chen and it looks like Chen will be SP2 for Miami.
