For some reason it seems like Resign values are lower, but based on a couple other contracts I can't approve 11M contract for the 3rd best player in the ML. I could approve at least a 12M contract for this player.
Miguel Cabrera $13,050,000 Giancarlo Stanton - $11,000,000 Buster Posey - $11,500,000

Posey is a catcher. Stanton was 3 years younger [26 years old] when his contract was resigned (and Stanton is still 2 years younger than Goldschmidt is right now [29]). Votto was the closest comparison of anyone resigned since the resigning rule changed and I increased the offer of what Votto was resigned to.
The 1B that have been resigned since have all been signed for below what Votto went for. Freeman, another solid comparison, just went for 4x $10M and he's 27 [2 years younger]. I don't think $11M is out of line with the existing contracts at the position, especially when factoring in age and the risk in the length of the contract.

Goldy isn't typical 1B he had 32 SB can't just ignore it.
I might approve $11.5 but $11 is too light when you factor in SBs.

Agreed, Goldschmidt is just too good to go for less than 12mm/year. He's been doing it for 5 years, shows no sign of slowing down, and gives you a lot of every offensive category. Each year he's either 30 HRs/20 SBs or 20 HRs/30 SBs. Throw in a .300/.400/.500 slash and his 35+ OWAR....this guy is the best. Other than Trout, he's the best player in baseball so he has to get paid like one. Votto and Freeman are close (Freeman got paid way too little) but 35 yo AGon and Hosmer are in a lower tier. This is about setting values for future years and an additional 1mm isnt going to hurt you for salary cap issues.

Goldy isn't typical 1B he had 32 SB can't just ignore it. I might approve $11.5 but $11 is too light when you factor in SBs. Goldschmidt's season high before that was 21 and that had been the only time prior that he broke 20. The 32 SB last season was an outlier that I would not expect to be duplicated at any point in his career, let alone in his 30s. (Goldschmidt is 29 now and will turn 30 during year 1 of the contract.) Projections have him in the high teens, low 20s, and those projections fall in line with his career stats. If you're forecasting 30+ SB for this season and even moving forward, I completely understand why you would expect a higher AAV. I don't see it. I don't see the 32 SB being duplicated at any point so expecting him to continue running that much in his 30s is not realistic.

A 1B who gets double digit SB is extremely valuable esp 15+. The only time he did not have at least 15 steals was the year he missed time injured. Stole bases in his career 18, 15, 9 (injured), 21 and 32 FROM A 1B.
For what its worth fantrax proj 104 R 25 HR 100 RBI 25 SB .300 .928 that is a 100+ R/RBI 20/20 1B hitting .300+ .900+.
