I look at Jose Quintana and I see Carlos Carrasco without the strikeouts. Carrasco has a career 8.9 K/9 while Quintana's is over a full K less at 7.8. However their career FIP are very similar at 3.42 vs 3.51 respectively and their whips are also nearly identical (1.20 vs 1.24). With all of the similarities minus the strikeouts I think Quintana should be valued slightly lower than Carrasco's $9M deal.
They are the same age (29) at time of resign and both play for competitive teams. However one major difference is that Quintana's are has over 400 more innings on it than Carrasco's at time of resign. Which is essentially two full seasons worth of pitching. As consistent as Quintana has been this does scare me for the later years of this contract. Due to injury scare and the limited strikeout upside my offer is:
4 years @ $8.25M per year

Quintana has gotten better over time. His k/9 last year was 9.87 while bringing consistency as a fantasy SP2/3. Samardzija, Mike Leake, and Jordan Zimmermann are other close comps at the time they were signed. I see Quintana as closer in value to Zimmermann (4/10.5) than Leake (4/8). We've always been a little stricter on starter values here so to me Quintana is worth 9 or even a little higher.

Deny #2, in my research comparing Justin Verlander, Dallas Kuechel and Jose Quintana all 3 were within 3 wins of each other last year and the K lead was lead by Verlander, Quintana and then Kuechel. I think Tyler's assessment of 9M would work for me.
