Going into his age 25 season, not quite as consistent as Trout but with plenty of room to grow. Slotting him just below Trout makes sense to me.

Comparing Harper and Trout's values highlights two main differences- consistency and stealing bases. Harper has all but given up stealing which takes out one cat in our scoring system. Yes he had 21 SBs 2 years ago but was caught 10 times and has had negative wins on the basepaths for 4 seasons. You also don't know which Harper is going to show up each year. Will it be the 2014 or 2016 version (Ryan Braun-ish value) or the 2015 and 2017 version (Trout minus stolen bases). Over a multi-year deal you will probably get both versions and be happy either way. He's young, cerebral, and playing for the contract of the century. That said I would go a full million less than Trout. Harper is unlike Cano and Altuve who have value at their position and are extremely consistent. In terms of setting values for future contracts I think Trout represents the ceiling so this one should hedge down from there. For me Harper is 14 per year.

I think its a little too much to be fair. I think $14 mil is a good #. While talent is not a issue staying healthy has been.
