A’s send: 3B Nolan Gorman (prospect) OF Luis Barrera (prospect) SP Parker Dunshee (prospect) OAK 2020 2.17
O’s send: SP John Means - $0 (2024) RP Hansel Robles - $300,000 (2020) RP Mychal Givens - $300,000 (2021) BAL 2020 3.1
A’s accept.
As stated previously my pitching is terrible. Losing Gorman and 2.17 made this tough, but control over Means and the swap of picks pushed me over the edge.

Orioles accept. Im adding a postion that I desperately need with a player that I think is best 3B prospect in all of baseball and has serious potential for an ace and two closers. Im also moving up a half of round in the draft. Only time will tell. Putting all my marbles in one bag in this one. This helps the A's immediate need as I continue growing my farm system.

The A's now have a formidable staff, adding 2 closers and a starter. While I initially saw Oakland obtaining a disproportionate advantage here, Robles will only be under contract for this season, and Givens til 2021. Two of these pitchers are on a sketchy Baltimore team, with little hope for improvement this season. Gorman will be in the majors sooner than later, and under control for several years. I still see Oakland with an overall advantage, but both teams getting what they desire. It as a close call, but I give approval #1.

Personally I don't like this trade even a little bit on Oakland's side. Maybe that's because I don't trust John Means, guy has only had one good season and even it was fairly mediocre. Sure he could be a useful piece but I don't count him as an ace. Robles and Givens are closers currently but that situation is so volatile and there isn't much team control there. Barrara and Dunshee are both top 30 prospects but don't seem like guys that will blow your socks off and both 24 already, so giving up them for a year of (hopefully) closer production I guess I understand, the picks are basically a wash. So it becomes Gorman for Means which I think is a huge overpay. But I suppose A's need to win now so they are willing to gamble. I can't veto it because I know A's knows what they are doing and I could be very biased as a Cardinal fan. So begrudgingly I will give this approval #2

Being a teams #1 does not mean your an ace it just means your the best of the mediocre sometimes. Means is a middle to backend type IMO. But he is cheap and the O's likely lack alternatives to him.
I think its likely A's will look back and regret this deal if Gorman lives up to the hype. He basically traded him for 2 RPs (I won't even call them both closers because that is never a guarantee in this day and age) and moving back in the FYPD.
Correct spelling is Luis Barrera not Luis Barrara.
I think this deal is right on the borderline to me and I went back and forth on it.
Approval #3
