Jays send: 3B Josh Donaldson $11,500,000 (2020) (re-sign)
Giants send: SP Garret Richards $9,500,000 (2021) 1B/3B Yandy Diaz $300,000 (2022) OF Anthony Santander $300,000 (2023) SS Ehire Adrianza $300,000 (2020)
Jays accept. Donaldson is still an extremely valuable piece in a now potent lineup but I would have likely been unable to sign Donaldson next year so was looking to get value even if it meant I discounted him. The return is basically the best case scenario I had in mind in terms of types of guys I would be looking for. I have been a long time fan of Richards, and will probably still believe that there is something there until he retires. He's still got the velocity and still misses bats, so buying low on a injury bounce back is right up my alley. I'm a big fan of Diaz and his approach and he's an upgrade at 1B with good control and Santander is an up and comer with a decent leash to work it out in Baltimore and is another upgrade at a position. As the Giants said in our negotiations Adrianza is a sneaky good value at SS and with the hole I have at the position I'm more then happy to get him included in the deal.
Thanks to the Giants for the offer and the quick turnaround.

Giants accept.
I’m ready to go for it. I was fine rolling into the season with Diaz as my starter at 3b but saw this an a nice opportunity to upgrade when checking out the trade block. Diaz hits it really hard and started lifting the ball last year. Santander showed pretty well but is buried on my depth chart. Richards has always been solid when healthy and like Fred said, I think Adrianza is sneaky good when he gets chances to play. Donaldson, though getting up there, should be high end in the short term so I’m excited. Thanks for the deal!

When healthy, Donaldson and Diaz can put up nice numbers. Donaldson is coming off a solid season, and is rightfully the centerpiece of this trade. Santander and Adrianza balance this one. Richards is a head-scratcher, never knowing what you will get. His salary balances cap concerns for both teams. Approval #1.
