Jays send:
OF Josh Reddick 9,000,000 (2020)
RHP Marcus Walden (2024) (Not called up)
SS Leonardo Jimenez
2.9 2020 FYPD (TOR)
Mets send:
RHP Raisel Iglesias - $7,300,000 (2020) (re-sign)
C Reese McGuire (2024) (Not called up)
Jays accept to cap off the greatest/worst/weirdest day in baseball history:
Originally Mets contacted me about opening up space for their re-signs but with the issues I would have had next year with mine I didn't want to trade for another one until I got my situation sorted out and with the Donaldson trade I was able to do that. Iglesias and closers in general I'm not keen on paying a lot for, but locking up the Jays catcher duo for the foreseeable future kind of turned this deal into Reese McGuire being the centerpiece of the deal for me instead of Iglesias. McGuire has shown some thump in limited time and if he can keep his walk to k ratio in the same general vicinity he's going to be a good asset for the position. Meanwhile, shaky as he is, Iglesias seems to be one of the few options that my improved Reds (fingers crossed) will have to close out games and my bullpen is lacking in leverage.
Going back are Reddick and his confetti which basically boils down to mild cap relief for me. Walden kind of came out of nowhere to be a 30 year old rookie and had a decent year and seems poised to get another shot in Boston's rotation. I like Jimenez but he's 18 and doesn't really have a plus tool outside of possibly his makeup. I don't like losing the 2nd rounder either but turning 2 moderate assets and a good draft pick into 2 upgrades seems reasonable.
Thanks to the Mets for the easy negotiations and the trade.
