Mariners Trade:
OF Jonatan Clase SEA (spec) RHP Wyatt Mills SEA (spec) 2020 DD pick Diamondbacks Trade:SS Kevin Newman PIT $300,000 (2024) Rationale:Every player I had that was SS eligibility has lost it for this year and they don't figure to be getting it back anytime soon. The FA market for SS is essentially nonexistent this year so I knew I would have to look to the trade market. Many of you know this because I've inquired into almost every SS in the league that could be available! To my surprise Dbacks approached me about Newman being available. He wasn't a solution I had previously considered but being cheap and controllable are a draw, and he had a solid year in 2019. I'm concerned that we've already seen his best but I'm just hoping he can be productive for another year or two while my window of contention is still open. Giving up another very young projectable player that I LOVE in Clase. A guy that could see high leverage innnings in Mills. And a DD pick to round it out. This thins out my system even more but if I get a championship out of it then it will be well worth. Thanks to Dbacks for the talks and the deal! How they were acquired:
Clase was an IFA signing for the Mariners in 2018 out of the Dominican Note: It is spelled Jonathan Clase here but I've seen it spelt Jonatan on Bref and prospect lists. Mills was drafted in the third round of the Amateur draft by the Mariners in 2017 Newman was drafted by the Dbacks here in the 2015 FYPD.

DBacks accept this deal. Thanks to Mariners for the lively discussion.
Newman was a nice piece for me and the years of control on him made it very tempting to hold onto him. However, considering that he is blocked in my lineup for the next few seasons at the very least, it made him expendable.
Wyatt is a fairly solid looming reliever prospect and I anticipate him being a nice holds guy in a season or two. Clase is the real gem of this return as he seems to be loaded up with tools (and hopefully can develop a little pop later on down the line). However, he’s so far away that his true value one way or another likely won’t be known for many years to come.

Not a huge return for an up and coming SS but not vetoable.
