DBacks Send:
SS Liover Peguero (ARZ) - prospect 2B Michael Busch (LAD) - prospect SP Luis Frias (ARZ) - prospect
Twins Send:
OF Max Kepler $300,000 (2021)
I view my team as one that is in the playoff hunt and I need a few more difference makers on my roster to push towards the playoffs and a championship. OF is a position of weakness and need and Max Kepler helps to fill in that hole significantly. It hurts to send away a few prospects that I like a whole lot, but the value here makes sense for my team and my current needs.
Thanks to Twins for the fun discussion, I'm glad we were able to come to a deal and I hope my specs kick ass for you down the line!

Twins agree..
Looking at my roster, I have too many holes to fill and several players with contracts ending in 2020 or 2021. I feel now is a good time to look towards the future.
I really like the 3 prospects I am getting in return here and feel that the potential there will give me a solid lineup in the future.
Thanks James for the great discussions and the deal!

This feels like a TON to give up for two years of a guy that has really only had one good season. Last year is the first year his OPS+ has been above 100 (which is average) and his OPS had never been above .737 before skyrocketing to .855 last year. This means regression is more than likely coming. The question is how hard will he fall. This probably isn't a guy you would resign either so you're giving up potentially 15 years worth of controllable assets, for two years of hopefully above average production. I've seen all of these guys rated as top 15 in their systems. Busch is rated by MLB as the #6 2B prospect in all of baseball. Sure they could bust but it seems like a helluva haul.
For me it's too much, Rejection #1

Regression? Or maybe he is just now coming into his own.
.252, 36 HR, .855 ops and he is only 27 years old. Kepler also at one point was a top 100 prospect. You shouldn't interject speculation there is no way you can predict how a player will perform. Most players break out at age 27.
If you do that then we can look at Busch and say wow he is horrible he only hit .182 with a .182 slg. Last year.
None of these guys are top 100 prospects. Kepler hit 36 HR at the MLB level, 98 RBIs, and 90 runs. Plus his k/bb rate was really good. Kepler was even close to being voted in as an All-Star.
The Twins just signed Kepler to a 5 year extension. They think he is worth a re-sign

I am good with this. The prospects are not sure bets to succeed, particularly how Busch fell flat in his first year. Kepler is a real talent with 2 years of a rookie deal? Easy Approve #2.

Good for the Twins. The Diamonbacks just extended Nick Ahmed for 4 years does that make him a better fantasy player? I think that 2 top 10 prospects for their team and another top 15 is too much for Kepler. You can disagree all you want. I know the stats. I know the risk. Sure I could be wrong. But that doesn't change my evaluation that this return is too much. He had a great year for sure, but look at all of his projections. Regression is baked in to them because that makes the most sense. If he continues to hit that's great but even his "great" year was only a 4 war season which was good to be tied for 66th and over half a run of that was defensive value that doesn't even help in fantasy. He's an above average player that I don't see getting any better vs three guys with nothing but potential. If it was two of the above, or two of the above and a flyer sure. But again I don't think he's worth this return. Just one man's opinion.

SS Liover Peguero (ARZ) - prospect - -#5 ARI by FG (50); #7 ARI by Fantrax; 19 (A-) 2B Michael Busch (LAD) - prospect -- #7 LAD by Fantrax; 22 (A) SP Luis Frias (ARZ) - prospect -- #16 ARI by FG (40+); #11 ARI by Fantrax; 21 (A)
Max Kepler: 3-Yrs as a regular
2017 .242/737 19 HR 69 RBI 67 R 2018 .224/.727 20 HR 58 RBI 80 R 2019 .252/.855 36 HR 90 RBI 98 R
2019 Proj Fantrax: .262/.844 32 HR 93 RBI 86 R B-R: .243/.795 26 HR 72 RBI 80 R Streamer: .260 30 HR 89 RBI 93 R
Kepler is expected to hit lead-off in a pretty solid Twins line-up.
Is it a lot to give up? Maybe. But all 3 specs have yet to play above A ball so plenty of chance for regression or bust for them. As someone shopping OFers not sure this would be the kind of package I would want 3 lottery tickets even if they are fairly decently rated its had to judge too much until they face AA and even AAA hitters/pitchers. Seems most proj expect Kepler to still hit around 30 HRs 80+ RBI 80+ R.
Approval #3 (3-1)
