Giants trade: OF Matt Holliday $16,000,000 (2014)(Re-signed)
Boston trade: SP Ryan Dempster $13,050,000 (2014) 2B Wendell Rijo (Bos) 2B Grant Green (2018)
I'm a big fan of Rijo and I have absolutely no depth in SS or 2b and Green plugs that hole nicely. Holliday is an expiring and will not be able to contribute when I plan on contending. Giants agree.

Just a technical note: I don't see anywhere that Grant Green has ever been promoted on the board here. He should just be listed as "2B Grant Green (2018)" The $300,000 contract will have to go through the promotion thread at some later point.

I think Phillies just wanted it noted that he did not actually have a contract yet but was being listed as having one when it was unneeded he could have been just listed Grant Green (2018) instead of Grant Green $300,000 (2018). Its more just a bookkeeping issue as any NEW promotion has to be posted and since Green had not been there was no need to list him with a contract ($$$) until he was that is all.

Not sure I get the Giants comments totally about Holliday unless he just does not feeling an aging Holliday would be worth the long-term deal in a new re-sign following the year.
Grant Green
Would I make this deal? Probably not as I think Holliday still has value even if re-signed he could be still traded. Rijo does have some upside even though he is probably A LONG way away from helping. Grant Green is blocked with LAA almost more so than he was in Oak having to play behind Howie Kendrick, Erick Aybar and David Freese. Maybe someone gets dealt and more PT becomes available as Green would have a cheap contract til 2018.

Its taking me awhile to wrap my brain around this one. I finally figured out how it makes sense from the Giants pov. He basically gets Green and Rijo for a one year rental of Holliday. He can easily take his 16m next year and buy a Holliday-caliber player then. So, in essence, all he's giving up are Holliday's stats this year. Red Sox get this years stats and re-signing rights. Looking at it that way, it makes more sense.
