Crazy Memorial Day trade -
Cubs Trade:
SP Tim Lincecum - 15,000,000 (2016)
Mets Trade:
SP Charlie Morton - $4,000,000 (2017) SP Andre Rienzo - $300,000 (2018) OF Brennan Boesch - $500,000 (2016) SS Tyler Saladino - (Prospect)
I have some cap room and the Cubs don't, so I'm basically trading some OK pieces for a pricey Lincecum. It might come back to haunt me, but I believe Timmy will be a useful SP for the next 2.5 years, with potential for 10 W and 180K/year. Probably worth $7 mil instead of $15, but I have some room. I'm not a believer that Morton will throw more than 150 innings/year or that Rienzo can stay effective, but they're warm bodies that save the Cubs $10.2 mil/year. Likewise Boesch/Saladino - meh.

Approved
Lincecum, Morton and Boesch were all free agent signings. Saladino and Rienzo were originally White Sox property that the Mets acquired in a trade here dated 12/20/10.
Mets have the cap room to take on the 10.2M salary difference.
Roster room is fine as Rienzo and Boesch are currently in the Mets "paid minors" and would transfer to the Cubs "paid minors" until he promotes one if he wants.
